Fantasy News and Notes 12-19-13:
Aaron Rodgers was limited in practice again today and he is appearing very unlikely to get cleared in time to play week 16. There's still a chance, but it's slim and I'm expecting Matt Flynn is going to start again week 16 for Green Bay. The Packers are expected to announce whether Rodgers has been cleared to play or not tomorrow.
The knee injury suffered by Joe Flacco has been diagnosed as a mild MCL sprain and while he will have to wear a knee brace Sunday, he is fully expected to start for the Ravens.
Running Backs
Eddie Lacy sat out practice again today for the Packers. Lacy has an ankle injury but he is expected to return to practice tomorrow and be fine for week 16.
Adrian Peterson sat out practice today after getting in a limited practice yesterday. While this is a little concerning, it needs to be remembered that Peterson was only practicing once or twice a week the last few weeks because of various injuries. Currently, Peterson is still expected to play week 16 despite his mid-foot sprain.
Donald Brown practiced for a second consecutive day today. He'll be fine for his usual role in week 16.
Maurice Jones-Drew was unable to practice again today because of his hamstring injury. At this point it's sounding unlikely that MJD will play week 16. It won't be official until we see whether he can practice at all tomorrow, but tentatively, I'm expecting Jordan Todman will start in his place again.
Wide Receivers
Larry Fitzgerald returned to a full practice today for the Cardinals. He has one more concussion test to pass, which he'll take tomorrow. As long as he shows no ill effects from today's practice, he's expected to get cleared and play week 16.
Victor Cruz has been ruled OUT for week 16 after having minor knee surgery. Cruz is done for the 2013 season as he won't be able to play week 17 either. Why the Giants are waiting to place him on injured reserve, I don't know. Usually, the Giants are one of the more "no-nonsense" type teams.
Wes Welker missed practice again today because of his concussion. Welker is extremely unlikely to play week 16.
Calvin Johnson didn't practice again today because of his lingering knee issue. While it's believed the Lions are just being ultra-careful with Megatron, it is a little concerning after he was a surprise inactive way back in week 5. No one seems concerned that he won't play so as long as that doesn't change, you should be fine considering him as you normally would.
T.Y. Hilton was added to the injury report today as not having practiced because of a shoulder injury. Hilton wasn't on yesterday's injury list so this is concerning. Be sure to pay attention to tomorrow's injury report for his official designation for week 16 if you were planning on starting him. On the plus side for the Colts, LaVon Brazill has practiced in full each of the last two days and appears on track to play week 16 after missing last week with a foot injury.
For a second consecutive day, Randall Cobb took part in a limited practice today. But word is that he is not ready to return from his leg injury and he is not expected to play week 16.
Steve Smith sat out practice today because of his finger injury. This is a bit concerning but the Panthers say they expect Smith to play. Tentatively expect Smith to be okay but a finger injury isn't optimum for guys who make their fantasy production on catching passes.
Danny Amendola, Aaron Dobson, and Kenbrell Thompkins all were listed as limited in practice today. In fact, about 25% of New England's roster was listed as limited. It's nice to see the Patriots get back to their injury report game playing ways. Here's the skinny: Amendola is fully expected to play this week despite a groin injury; Dobson is tentatively expected to play for the first time in 3 weeks because of a foot injury; Thompkins has put in limited practices each day of the last two prior weeks but has been inactive on game days because of his hip injury. There's no telling if he'll play or not.
Terrence Williams was unable to practice again today because of a hamstring injury. He is not expected to be able to play week 16 for Dallas. Expect Miles Austin to be full time as the #2 WR this week with Cole Beasley taking over as the Cowboys #3 WR in a tasty matchup on paper this week.
Eddie Royal has missed practice each of the last 2 days and while he has played through his toe injury before, I would consider his status to be questionable for week 16.
Tight Ends
Jordan Cameron remained out of practice today because of his concussion. It's beginning to sound like he is not going to gain clearance to play week 16. Gary Barnidge would be the Browns primary TE if Cameron can't play.
Washington finally placed Jordan Reed on injured reserve because of his lingering concussion symptoms. Logan Paulsen and Fred Davis will finish out the season splitting up the TE duties for the Redskins.
John Carlson suffered a setback in his return from a concussion and he did not practice today. Carlson put in a full practice yesterday but apparently he experienced some symptoms today and now he is not expected to play week 16.
Garrett Graham sat out practice again today for Houston. He is not expected to play week 16 because of his hamstring injury. I wouldn't be surprised if he goes to injured reserve soon. I expect Ryan Griffin to finish out the season as the Texans starting TE.
Jermaine Gresham put in another full practice today despite his abdominal injury. He is now expected to play. All this does for fantasy purposes is make Tyler Eifert a lot less likely to have a big game as the two take targets away from each other.
Anthony Fasano put in a full practice today and he appears to be on track to play week 16 after missing week 15 with knee and concussion issues. He's hard to trust as a fantasy option though.
