News and Notes 11-09-11

*-Kevin Kolb missed practice today but tried moving around some on his injured foot. Kolb is still a long shot to play this week against the Eagles and I expect John Skelton to start again for Arizona.

*-Matt Hasselbeck was limited in practice today with a thumb injury. It's considered minor though and he's fully expected to start be fine this for Tennessee.

*-While he was limited in practice today, Sam Bradford's ankle injury must be a non-issue going forward as they waived 3rd string QB Tom Brandstater today.

Running Backs

*-Darren McFadden has been officially ruled OUT for Thursday night's game against San Diego. Michael Bush will be the feature RB with Taiwan Jones getting a little playing time. Bush is a solid fantasy start but Jones would have to be considered a desperation play.

*-Ryan Mathews practiced in full today and he is Probable for Thursday night's game. I still expect close to a 50/50 split between him and Mike Tolbert though, making either a risky fantasy start. The matchup is good and if I had to guess I'd say Mathews makes a RB2 this week and Tolbert a RB3.

*-No update on Ahmad Bradshaw. He didn't practice today but that was to be expected. Personally, I'd be surprised if he was able to play and even if he does I'd be even more surprised if he was effective.

*-Mark Ingram practiced today in limited fashion for the first time in a couple of weeks. Ingram has missed the last couple of games with a heel injury. However, it's not a given he'll be active this week and even if he is I would be wary of considering him. I much prefer Darren Sproles and Pierre Thomas for fantasy value.

*-Felix Jones did not practice today because of his lingering ankle injury and whether he'll play this week is unknown. This was supposed to be the earliest Jones could have come back from his high ankle sprain so it's no surprise he may need another week or two off. He hasn't been declared out, but I fully expect DeMarco Murray to be the top RB for Dallas this week regardless of whether Jones plays or not.

*-As I warned yesterday, the Redskins have another RB to consider, thusly giving real headaches to fantasy owners. Tashard Choice practiced today and it now appears he may be active this week. Choice has been out because of a hamstring injury but his potential recovery means we now have to wonder whether it will be Roy Helu, Ryan Torain, or Choice who gets the most touches from the Redskins RB stable this week.

*-Joseph Addai didn't practice today, supposedly because of a knee injury. Not sure how he injured his knee when he's been having hamstring issues that have prevented him from getting any game action the last few weeks, but as they say: "it is what it is". I tentatively expect Donald Brown to be the most primary RB this week but I think I'd rather just stay away from the Colts RB's altogether.

*-Amongst RB's who have some minor injuries but are fully expected to be fine to start this week are the Rams Steven Jackson, the Jaguars Maurice Jones-Drew, the Jets Shonn Greene, the 49ers Frank Gore, Arizona's Beanie Wells, and the Patriots BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Kevin Faulk.

Wide Receivers

*-Malcom Floyd is officially Doubtful for Thursday night's game and is expected to miss it. Vincent Brown likely will start in his place.

*-Hakeem Nicks missed practice today but he is expected to practice tomorrow and is tentatively expected to be able to play week 10. I'd be very careful starting him though if he doesn't practice in full by Friday though as hamstring injuries and WR's are a bad combo.

*-The Texans say Andre Johnson will be a game time decision week 10 but unless he gets on the practice field I don't expect him to play. It just seems ludicrous that they don't let him rest and rehab the hamstring injury so he can come back at near full strength after their week 11 bye.

*-Nate Washington missed practice today and while the team says they expect him to play this week I'm not so sure. Washington has a hip injury and if he doesn't practice at least some by the weekend I would recommend keeping him on the bench.

*-No practice for Danario Alexander. He's missed the last 2 games with a hamstring injury and his status is very questionable for week 10. In related Rams news they activated Mark Clayton from the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list and Clayton may be able to play this week. for those who don't remember last year, Clayton was actually tearing it up for the Rams before a torn patellar tendon ended his season in week 5. Not sure I trust Clayton to be at full strength, but with a little time he may emerge as the other starting WR opposite Brandon Lloyd. That is if he can stay healthy.

*-Amongst WR's nursing injuries but are fully expected to be fine to play week 10 include the Patriots Wes Welker (ribs), the Seahawks Sidney Rice (foot), the Bucs Mike Williams (thigh), the Bears Devin Hester (ankle), the Steelers Hines Ward (concussion), and the Jets Plaxico Burress (back).

Tight Ends

*-Fears of Dustin Keller possibly missing week 10 can be put to rest. He practiced today and the head injury he suffered week 9 isn't expected to make him miss week 10.

*-Jared Cook missed practice today because of his knee injury. While the Titans say they expect him to play and that his knee injury isn't serious, he wasn't exactly lighting it up when he was healthy and therefore it's probably best to keep him on fantasy benches unless you have no better options.

*-Todd Heap practiced in limited fashion again for the Cardinals today. Heap was active last week and looks to be so again week 10, although he isn't fully recovered from his hamstring injury. The Cardinals could use Heap as it seems likely Rob Housler is expected to miss the game with a groin injury.

*-Tony Gonzalez was given practice off today. That's happened several times this season and he is fully expected to return to practice tomorrow and be fine for week 10.

*-Jason Hanson has a knee injury and his status for this week is uncertain. Detroit worked out a couple of kickers today and if they sign one by Saturday, we'll know Hanson isn't playing.

*-Sebastian Janikowski is still not fully recovered from his hamstring injury and is limited in practices, but he is expected to be okay for week 10.
