A popular question we receive is what is the difference between the two numbers you see after running our fantasy football draft analyzer. I have answered this to members who have emailed us thru our help option, but figured posting it in a forum right here might actually save time for any who may peruse the message board looking for an answer.

The first number (not in paranthesis) is the projected total amount of fantasy points a player is slated to score.

The number in paranthesis is the Value Based Draft (VBD) number. In Value Based Drafting, the theory is that for comparing players across different positions you need to assign a "benchmark zero" player at each position and everyone at that position is then compared to that player and how many fantasy points he is projected to score.

For example, if Adrian Peterson is the #1 ranked RB and slotted to score 257 total fantasy points, and the benchmark zero player (lets say the 30th ranked RB for an example) is projected to score 69 fantasy points, you simply subtract the 69 points from AP's 257 and you'll get 188. Every RB will have this 69 points subtracted from their projected total fantasy points scored to come up with the VBD #.

Same thing at every other position, only for QB's it could be the 12th ranked QB's projected fantasy points that are used to set the benchmark zero. At WR it may be the 24th ranked WR, at TE, it could be TE ranked 8th; etc. If you look down the Draft Analyzer board, you'll eventually see a sequence of players from each position that have a zero in paranthesis next to their projected total points scored.

The way these benchmark zero players are determined is by the min and max starters at each position, league size, and a formula we designed to take into account the importance of depth at certain positions (like RB and WR) over starters at positions like Kicker and Defenses.

I hope this helps many who may be confused by the two numbers.

Here's a link to my fantasy football article on drafting strategies and tactics which explains value based drafting, average value theory, and tiering. The names on it are dated, but the reasoning behind how these systems work are the same.

I know what the guy is asking. I want a cheat sheet that will show each position broken down into tiers with VBD attached.

You can print them up seperately. There is a positional VBD cheatsheet link right there with the Tier sheet links. But our system doesn't show the VBD board with the positional tier rankings for each player next to them. Interesting idea though and maybe an enahancement for next year?

That's odd. The VBD positional ranking links should be right above the links to the Tier sheets. If they are not appearing there, please use the help section and send us an email regarding it and our tech guys will try to figure it out. Include your browser type (IE7, IE8, MOzilla, etc) as well as that may make a difference to them.

There is a link there and it opens, but it only lists the total points, not the VBD rankings.  I only get the VBD rankings on the all position sheet (but, not if I open the printable version, it then only lists total points)
