This uses my general Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game formula and is updated thru week 8. The numbers in parenthesis are the current defensive rankings vs. the run that team will face in weeks 14, 15, and 16. The order of the teams was determined by adding the 3 defensive matchup rankings together (24+32+20=76).

The team with the best rushing schedule weeks 14-16 is the New England Patriots. They face the 24th, 32nd, and 20th ranked run defenses those weeks. The problem with the Patriots is identifying who will be the primary RB for them by then. They have no clear cut definite starter. Laurence Maroney is the guy right now, but Sammy Morris is expected back in another couple of weeks. Fred Taylor should be back by then. And all of these guys have injury histories, so it may even be Benjarvus Green-Ellis or Kevin Faulk who is toting the rock primarily for them. You just don’t know. So what do you do? You grab one or two of them and stash them on your bench if it’s deep enough. Hopefully by week 13 things should have shaken out a bit and you’ll have a good idea of who is getting the ball. But because of their uncertain statuses, by no means do you give up a lot to acquire any of them.

The team with the second most favorable schedule vs. the run is the Tennessee Titans. Owners of Chris Johnson rejoice! He’ll face the 29th, 16th, and 25th ranked run defenses making him a great play those weeks. Maybe LenDale White is someone who may have some value as well stashed on the bench in case anything happens to Johnson and he doesn’t play one or more of those 3 weeks. And if you don’t have Johnson, maybe you should try acquiring him. He’s coming off a big week last week, but he had many mediocre ones before that and perhaps you wait until next week and hope he has a poor game against the 49ers week 9 thusly lowering his value. But definitely, if you can get Chris Johnson, do it.

And one of the teams tied for the 3rd best schedule vs. the run is Miami. Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams have been running silly this season and with matchups against the 20th, 21st, and 26th ranked run defenses in weeks 14-16, you should be able to count on them. They both come with risk as they both cut into each other’s fantasy potential, but we’ve also seen games where both have had great stats. Acquiring one or both of them may be a move that could benefit your fantasy team.

Below are the rankings for every team and the rankings of their 3 opponents those weeks.

1. New England (24, 32, 20)
2. Tennessee (29, 16, 25)
3t. Miami (20, 21, 26)
3t. Kansas City (32, 31, 4)
5. Washington (30, 27, 9)
6. Atlanta (22, 11, 32)
7. Seattle (26, 28, 7)
8t. NY Jets (28, 17, 15)
8t. Dallas (25, 22, 13)
10t. Houston (14, 29, 16)
10t. St. Louis (21, 26, 12)
12t. Arizona (8, 18, 29)
12t. Denver (15, 30, 10)
14t. Cleveland (1, 23, 30)
14t. New Orleans (17, 9, 28)
16. Cincinnati (2, 25, 23)
17t. Oakland (13, 3, 31)
17t. NY Giants (10, 13, 24)
17t. Tampa Bay (11, 14, 22)
17t. Minnesota (4, 24, 19)
21. Buffalo (23, 5, 17)
22. Pittsburgh (31, 7, 6)
23. San Francisco (12, 10, 18)
24t. Philadelphia (27, 8, 3)
24t. Baltimore (18, 19, 1)
26. Jacksonville (16, 15, 5)
27t. Carolina (5, 2, 27)
27t. San Diego (9, 4, 21)
27t. Green Bay (19, 1, 14)
27t. Indianapolis (3, 20, 11)
31. Detroit (6, 12, 8)
32. Chicago (7, 6, 2)

Keep this in mind when thinking about making trades for your playoff weeks, and remember the formula used for creating the rankings is generic based off 1 point for every 10 rushing yards allowed by a defense and 6 points for every rushing touchdown allowed and then dividing that by the number of games played. Your scoring system may be different and yield slightly different results. But in general terms, for the average league out there this is a far better list than just going by yards allowed.

Short answer, I'd rather have Johnson than Rice based on what we see here.

I would rather any questions about trades be placed in Trade Forum. These lists are just a consideration for information in regards to who has the best matchups in general and not an indictment of you should definitely be either trading for, or trading away.
