New Orleans Saints vs. Indianapolis Colts

Injuries

Saints: RB Lynell Hamilton is Questionable with an ankle injury and appears unlikely to be active. WR’s Robert Meachem and Lance Moore, along with TE Jeremy Shockey are Probable and are expected to be fine to play.

Colts: RB’s Joseph Addai, Donald Brown, and Mike Hart, along with WR Reggie Wayne and Kickers Matt Stover and Adam Vinatieri are Probable. Wayne tweaked a lingering knee injury and was limited Friday but is fully expected to start. Stover will kick over Vinatieri. The others are all expected to be fine. DE Dwight Freeney hasn’t been able to practice because of an ankle injury and is Questionable and will be a game time decision.

Summary: First time in a long time the top seeds from both the NFC and NFC have faced each other in the Super Bowl. Both teams have blown out opponents thru the course of the season and both teams have found ways to win despite trailing in games. Anything can happen in this game. This will likely be a high scoring Super Bowl since both teams have excellent offenses that can put points on the board in a hurry. The key to this game for both teams will be turnovers. The Saints have been one of the top teams in the league creating them and they needed them in the NFC Championship game to defeat the Minnesota Vikings. Without the turnovers they got in that game, it could have easily been the Vikings facing the Colts this week. Peyton Manning is not a QB who throws many interceptions and the Colts as a team only lost 5 fumbles all season (2 of them by backup QB Curtis Painter). The Colts protect the football as well as any team in the league and the Saints will need to create turnovers to have a chance to win. This game should be high scoring and a lot of fun to watch as it could go back and forth with several lead changes. I could go over all the players and matchups and praise both teams for how great each is. But the bottom line is that I fully expect that on Monday, national media personalities that have criticized him in the past will be talking about how Peyton Manning solidified his legacy as one of the top 2 QB’s to ever play in the NFL. It would be a nice story for the city of New Orleans and for long suffering Saints fans (anyone remember the bags and the “Aints”?) and I’d be happy for them, but I just don’t think it will happen. If the game somehow turns into a blowout, it would be the Colts on the positive side something like 45-21. I doubt that happens though.

Russ’s Prediction: Indianapolis 35, New Orleans 28
PLA Prediction: Indianapolis 30, New Orleans 26

Russ’s Super Bowl MVP Prediction: Peyton Manning

I find it interesting that most of the odds on the game are the Colts favored by 3 ½ to 4 points and the over/under on the game is 56 ½ and our software program has the Colts winning by 4 points and the total score to add up to 56.

Just an observation.

Great article and have to agree but I am rooting for the Saints and what this could do for that town. Good luck.

Yeah I agree Russ, high scoring game, close but Indy by a few.  I don't really care who wins, just looking for a good game while I suck down a few beers and enjoy some lime chips with guac.
