in ppr league we get to keep 1 player.  I draft 12th because I won it all last season.  Now I am questioning who to keep.
Vick, Jamaal Charles, Micheal Turner, Mike Wallace, or Felix Jones.
I am leaning towards Vick or Charles.
Please help.

Thanks

How does your keeper league work, do you lose a pick for the round you drafted the guy in last year? That could make a big difference in how I pick.  Also what's your scoring, and how many do you start?

In a bubble, if its just you straight up get keep a guy and then have the rest of the draft...I would say Charles.  He is great in ppr.  Then with the 12th pick, since you have a stud RB in place take a stud WR or you could take a stud QB if you feel really bad about letting Vick go.  In a ppr league though I would feel really good going into the second round if I had great ppr back like Charles and a stud WR (like AJ, White, or CJ)

If you are willing to take the risk I would keep Vick. If he comes close to what his output was last year he will be a cornerstone for many owners this year. He should outscore Charles, who is solid as a #1 fantasy RB, but as we saw last year Vick can beat you so many ways. With teams just getting into camp I think a guy like Vick will be able to roll up some good numbers early on, especially on the ground. This would also allow you back to back RB picks last pick of the first round and first pick of the second or secure a WR to form a solid triad to build on.

nic,
It is straight up, we do not lose a draft pick.  We start 1 QB,2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 DEF/ST.  I am leaning the same way, keeping Charles and then with the 12th and 13th go RB/WR or QB/RB or QB/WR depending on what is left on the board.
Thanks for the help.

Gotta keep Jamaal Charles myself. You have good options, but he'd be my choice.

5 rushing TDs in 2010...and I won't ignore the 3 TDs via the air.

Quick recap of Value Based Drafting...not that I'm a huge fan of ESPN's projections, but in a PPR league they have Charles scoring 286 in a PPR league vs Vick's 282.

Now, look at the drop off in RBs that would probably be available w/ you're 12th: Mendy(235), Gore(256), Turner(213), SJax(254).

Compare that to the QBs: Brees(281), Brady(280), Manning(274), Rivers(274)

The value pick is Charles and then taking one of those four QBs.  Charles and Maning = 560.  Vick + Gore = 538.

Even if you use their totals last year so it's not just projection based, Charles + Manning = 555 vs Vick + Mendy = 542(chose Mendy cuz he scored the most out of the group above and Gore was hurt).  So, despite Vick having what most would consider will be his career season, the pairing still didn't outscore Manning and Charles.  And Charles is the most likely to improve on his 2010 campaign of all players mentioned.

Maybe that is part of my problem. I have never used VBD but the concept is simple and makes good sense. May have to prep a bit deeper thus season. Thanks.

Yeah it's definitely not an exact science by any means but it's served me well as one of my main tools.  Generally top RB and WR are more valuable than top QBs because A) You need more of them as starters, and B) the point spread between top teir WR and RB is generally greater than at QB
