I say Best will have a better year, and hit 100 yard a game before bush does. We can all speculate but only Time will tell the truth, they are both the "man" on thier teams this year, I think Best will have a better year, I think Best is a better back. I think Bush is more marketable, and more hype. I think at second over all in 2006, his real numbers vs his drafts position, he could be inked in as a bust so far-If you rate bust from thier draft position. Back then he was compared to Gayle Sayers and Faulk, he fell short, way short.  Other backs from that year have done much more. He is ok in the NFL but think he was suppose to be more of a game changer then he turned out to be. Best still has the opportunity to do so much more.

Best will likely have a better year due to age and a better team.  My point is how similar the two are.  Not really a discussion on fantasy value as much as just a comparison.  Creeps into fantasy a bit because both are risky but Bush was much cheaper.

Based strickly on stats Bush is a bust.  But the fact that he changes the way defenses played the Saints when he was on the field meant a lot.  He was a big part of their SB.  Best is a similar kind of threat and I think the Lions are going to spin their wheels turning him into a 20-25 carry guy.

Thought it would be interesting to see what people thought of Bush's fantasy value back before he played an NFL snap.  Found this blurb from our very own Russ:

"The upside of what Bush could be if he
adds some bulk makes him extremely attractive for dynasty or keeper style
fantasy football leagues. Even if he doesn’t, the possibility of
Bush providing the type of fantasy football help that Marshall Faulk did
in his prime for fantasy teams is enough to make him the elite RB of this
class."

Bush definitely had the higher percieved upside.  All I'm saying is they are similar.  But entering the league Bush in my opinion was the more talented of the two.

They are similar. If Bush was more talented, I think you see it in his numbers. Great backs dont put up them numbers till they are 33, not 23. My point is they are similar but think Best will put up better numbers in the same 6 years, far better.
I just talked to a guy about rb, the size and speed of defensive players and the short lenth running backs are in the league. When I grew up Rb were single backs for years,. you look at top backs five years ago, not many still play.2006 top 10 backs that still play, LT SJAX and gore...I dont know if we have that many backs that can even reach 10000 yards in this NFL, injuries just happen so fast. E Smiths record almost looks unbreakable. Sorry to go off topic.

They are very similar, that's all I was getting at.

Best has a lot of work to be "far" better though. He's already behind after one year, and his ypc numbers are already lining up very similarly. I don't think either should be used as 20-25 carry backs.

It is totally different how backs are now, crazy isn't it? So much turn over.

I think Best is living up to my comparison.  Still more of a receiver than a runner.  Put up very vintage Reggie-like numbers this weekend.  This was a defense that gave up 5.6ypc to Fred Jackson and Best only managed 3.6 despite the pass game moving the ball at will.

He's obviously a better fantasy pick at this point with a better offense and Sparano going back on his word of still giving Reggie the touches.  But that was never really my point, more just a discussion of similarities.  I still think they need to limit his rushing touches to keep him healthy

Tell me what does best have to do to be better? Best at his current stats this year will hit 250 touches and over a 1k yards rushing. Just like I said he would. He will far surpass Bush"s 565 yards in a year. I guess by your standards CJ SPillers the same also? Spiller on track to match Bush'd 565 yards in a year.

Before this week I would have said Best. Now with what DT did, Best is the (BEST) option in a better offense.

No way am I trying to get under Cody's skin either, I just say you have to let J Best play, last year was turf toe, we see more what he can provide this year. I think he will be better, but time will tell. I also think Bush will lose his starting roll this year.

No worries, I got think skin, tough to get under!  I just don't think they can afford to give him 20 carries a game w/ a 3.3ypc average.  He's more dangerous used in the pass game IMO

I agree with that, get him in the open feild and most backs are more dangerouse. You think Bush has anything left? It looks like he will be lucky to hit 400 yards this year, as the starter.
