Just a quick commentary...in most leagues that end their regular season on week 13, so you have three weeks of playoffs and don't play on week 17, we are starting to get to the point where your lineup decisions are more conservative or aggressive!

What the HE, double toothpicks do I mean by that!  In general you can take more chances lineup wise early in the season as it gets later the "play your studs" theory comes even more into play.

This week prime example, in most scoring systems and much to the surprise of many of us, Big Ben is a top 5 fantasy QB, 2310 yards passing, 14 TD's, 7-INT' s and a passer rating of 95.7 pretty heady stuff. His worst game this year vs. The Ravens...this weeks opponent...The Ravens!

Let's say your are 6-2 or 5-3 and have both Big Ben and Alex Smith as your QB's...Alex has the much better match-up but in this scenario...conservative is the way to play it...you start Big Ben.

Conversely if you are 2-6 or 3-5...you need a win bad to make a push...you can't afford a 6-3   or 10-7 Steelers/Ravens duke em out Defensive struggle you need freakin points...so the argument can be made...you play the match-up.

In fantasy football there are many other factors other than just, stud vs. match-up your record, the records of those above and below you, your playoff tie-break scenarios, your upcoming schedule, do you have more games vs. the tough teams in your league or the not so tough teams etc.

In the coming weeks for me personally I will be answering posts  on lineups but I'll be asking you record as well in order to get a better overall picture of what you need to do...

And you thought all this fantasy stuff was easy!!!!!!!!!!!!

Curious as to what allot of you others out there think of this post or do you even concern yourself with that type of scenario...

Agree Michael. Good write up.  Now is the make or break time, you have to take chances.  That may include dropping some of those guys you were hanging onto all season hoping they would break out but just haven't for someone who still may.

Carpe diem!

Also if you are in dynasty leagues and are 2-6 or worse you might want to pack it in and really think about making yourself better for next year instead of holding on to the glimmer of hope you can make the payoffs (obiously depends on your league, 2-6 is not a hard cut off).

And your opinion on "playoffs" is one reason I was not a big supporter of H2H type fantasy leagues. Last I checked the NFL season is 17 weeks long. Sure depending on players, teams, record and coaches some of your fantasy starters might not start the last few weeks of a season, others might.

So instead of drafting a team for 17 weeks you are now drafting a team for 13 weeks with the hopes of playing for another 2...3...4 weeks depending on how your league structures its playoffs. While H2H wasn't really a glimmer in our eyes in 1983 when we got started, we draft and played a full 16 week season and the winners were determined by total points, not wins and losses.

I know this really has nothing to do with Michael's comments above, but for a league, like mine the H2H was an after thought to the league, a "side bet" so to speak to keep it interesting for those teams who don't have enough points to compete in the total points championship, but could possibly "get lucky" have a playoff worthy record and make a run late in the season.

So in essence, a record might not reveal much, prior to the last 2 weeks I was 2-4, nearly in last place but 3rd in overall scoring in my league. By the conclusion of week 7 I wrote the season off, not only total points but playoffs as both are out of my reach.

So keep it all in perspective. I accept the factor many FFS members are pushing for the playoffs, so the more information you give when posting for others to provide their opinion is appreciated. Hopefully I can help make better decision for you than I have made for myself this season, which is already turning in a LONG season and we are only 9 weeks in.

Good luck!!!

TBH...I understand the Total Points concept but I just personally don't agree...

I/we will never make fanatsy football what real football is however in every sport played that there is a head to head matchup there is a winner and a loser.

You can be the fastest and still not win, you can have the dream team and still not win, you can draft a baseball team full of all-stars and still not win...why should fanatsy football be different IMO?

Agian I understand your leagues concept... I drafted this team, why should I score 120 points per week but because of a random schedule, or fantasy charma, I happen to play team of the week 5 out of 6 weeks and have 5 lossses but am outscoring everyone...welcome to fantasy football buddy...it's what really makes a Championship special in H2H again IMO.

That's what makes this country great. a diffrenece of opinion...you've never done H2H in your league probaly never will, I've never done Total Points and I never will, but for the sake of this post it was to address those that do play H2H.

This is in NO WAY a rip on your take above...it's just another factor that we in H2H leagues have to consider...its all good!!!
