Looking for some thoughts on keepers in my auction league. Scoring is standard, with 6 point passing TDs and 1 PPR. The possibilities are:

Jordy Nelson for 2.5% of budget. This is a no brainer

SFO Defense for 2.5% of budget. I'm on the fence here. I can certainly get a lesser defense for about .5% budget, but the best defenses will often go for 5-7% of budget.

Alex Smith for 2.5% of budget. Another one where I'm on the fence. He'll be my backup, but with his targets, how can this guy not have a great year?

Ray Rice for 43% of budget. Foster and McCoy must be exposed to the draft, but it will go downhill quickly from there. This is close to my anticipated top of the range for Rice, but we have some gamblers in our league who could go higher. Probably not a bad risk to expose him to the draft and see if I can get Foster or Rice.

Right now, I'm leaning Nelson and SFO, with maybe on Smith and a no on Rice unless I hear a great argument here. TIA for your input.

I agree with you except I would pick up Smith. I had him as a QB # 3 last season and I actually played him for three weeks and he did really good for me.

Now he has more weapons and I think for the price you can't go wrong there.

43% of your budget seems too high to keep Rice. I agree with James. I had Smith as a back up the past 2 years and played him more than I thought I would and made a good back up QB. I like Nelson as well, especially where he is slated in the tiering. SFO, I could go either way. It does seem like a small price to pay for a defense that was one of the best last year.
