So much for that "good week" for the picks in week 8 I mentioned last week. I finished 8-6 and should have seen a couple of those games coming. That puts me at 73-45 for the 2012 season to date, which is well short of where I like to be after 8 weeks. But focusing on the past gets you nowhere and so I turn my attention to week 9 and trot out another round of what I hope will be winners.

Here are my week 9 NFL game predictions:

San Diego 27, Kansas City 19
Green Bay 35, Arizona 21
Baltimore 20, Cleveland 19
Houston 41, Buffalo 21
Washington 24, Carolina 21
Chicago 23, Tennessee 16
Denver 31, Cincinnati 21
Detroit 26, Jacksonville 17
Indianapolis 20, Miami 17
Seattle 17, Minnesota 13
Tampa Bay 27, Oakland 23
NY Giants 24, Pittsburgh 20
Atlanta 27, Dallas 20
New Orleans 34, Philadelphia 27

There you have it; my week 9 NFL game predictions.

Green Bay made it more interesting than it should have been in week 8 for my Survivor Pool Lock of the Week. But they managed to come thru and that makes me 6-2 for the season. Here are the weekly results:

Week 1 (W; 27-23) Detroit over St. Louis
Week 2 (L; 18-20) New England over Arizona
Week 3 (L; 24-27) New Orleans over Kansas City
Week 4 (W; 38-14) Houston over Tennessee
Week 5 (W; 45-3) San Francisco over Buffalo
Week 6 (W; 23-20) Atlanta over Oakland
Week 7 (W; 21-14) Minnesota over Arizona
Week 8 (W; 24-15) Green Bay over Jacksonville

Keeping in tradition of not being able to select a team more than once in a season, I won't take any team I've chosen in a prior week. For this week, I was really tempted to take Denver on the road, but I don't like road teams usually, and would rather have Denver for a future week and there are 2 home teams I feel very confident in, despite neither team inspiring a lot of confidence over the season. Seattle at home is just tough, but a low scoring game makes for higher probability of the upset. Therefore I will turn my attention to another game. A game I normally would stay away from since it is a division game and both teams are riding 3 and 4 game losing streaks respectively coming into it. But the way I see reality is that the Chiefs simply don't have a clue about what type of offense they are and their defense usually plays much worse on the road than they do at home. San Diego already has beaten them once this season by double digits, and there's a good chance they could do so again at home, on a short week.

My Survivor Pool Lock for Week 9 is: the San Diego Chargers over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Good choice on the lock Russ. As with you I don't like taking a road team, but my choices are limited.

Tough call for me this week. I'll take Detroit on the road. I think Suh and Fairly can kill Gabbert.

Wish I had taken the Chargers in my Survivor pool! Advise who you would take as I have these teams left. Chicago over Titans, Detroit over Jags, Seattle over Vikes? I have the Bears as my pick.

Bears would be my next choice.
