Listending to XM Fantasy station on Monday prior to the Monday night game with NE vs Houston. The caller wanted to know if he should not start his D, Houston, this week since he was tied with his opponent and he had the tie breaker. The only way he could lose and be out of the playoffs was for the Houston D to put up negative points or a stat correction which would eliminate the tie in is opponents favor. There was about 30 minutes of discussion about the ethics of not starting a D in this situation and if it should be allowed by the league.

Not sure what the guy did, but in my league, Houston put up -1 points which would put him out of the playoffs if he started them with similar scoring (he stated that he got negative points if the Pats scored more than 35).

What do you guys think? Should he have sat his D? Not sure I would have felt good about sitting them, but it is within his leagues rules.

I'm in 1 league that requires you to start someone in each position or you have a void week this take all choices out of the equation

yeah if its in the league rules, and you already won I would sit them. You no longer need the overall points for anything so it doesn't hurt you. Your opponent might complain but whatever, its not against the rules in most leagues. Especially going against a powerful offense like NE, and it was at NE.

I sit them in a second especially with Houston on the road against the Patriots. Heck look at what GB did to the Houston defense at home.

I won many years ago because a person in our league started a defense when they didn't have to. However, it was a regular season game so he likely did it to contribute to his overall points. With this being a playoff game....heck yes I bench them.

If it's not against the league rules I would sit them. No need to risk it if you have already won.

Agree I have to believe your opponent would do it if they had the opportunity. Granted the match up would also factor in but the Patriots offenses at home!!!! No thank you.

In fantasy baseball, those last 2 days of the season, you have pitchers you sit if it's wrapped up.Playing them can lose it for you. Just like this situation and no one has a problem with it.

Petty is correct with the Baseball analogy, depending on what the rules say I have sat many a player to secure a win.
