I have a league interested in switching the draft format to an auction style. We have never done this so im looking for suggestions on what rules and formats work best? Most likely it will be an 8 Team league what is the best team draft amount $ and what team roster player amount to make sure the draft makes a big impact in the league...

Also what computer software is the best for tracking the draft?

You can make it work with any type of $$ amount. I've played in auction leagues where the cap is $100 fictional dollars; others in the tens of thousands, and others in the millions with contracts and all the bells and whistles.

Keep it simple your first year. The usual seems to be a $200 cap and since you have only 8 teams, why not make the roster sizes 18? That's still only 128 players instead of a more standard 192 that go in a 16 round draft in a 12 team league.

My suggestion is don't do it. They are terrible! If you have a cap, which you should, it makes it almost impossible to trade.
