As I posted in a previous thread, this is the 30th year for my running the league I manage. It has been a great time having childhood friends continue to support the league with 6 fo 10 owners original members from the first year. Amazing really.

I have recently begun having thoughts about hanging up my fantasy football cleats and moving on. Maybe things changed when I got married and we had our first child, not sure. While I lay responsibility squarely on my shoulders, my wife doesn't understand draft day, especially when it is held in Vegas, in a cabana next to the pool. Need I say more?

Aisde from that, I haven't had that burning desire to put time and effort into the league to make it what it was in the past. Maybe that is just the nature of the game, as our league rules have changed over the year and the size of the league has increased. Now, it's more dominated by money more than the fun and enjoyment we had years ago as kids. I am sure if the owners had their way the buy in for the league would continue to rise on a yearly basis in order to feed the winnings pot and waiver wire transactions.

I haven't made any decision quite yet, but the thrill I once had at this time of year just hasn't hit me yet. Not sure if it will. Of course I will bring my 'A' game when I respond and post on FFS, but I am soul searching and wondering if there will be a year 31 for our league. I haven't made any annoucements to the other owners in the league, but hopefully I will make up my mind before the draft and let all the owners know on draft day I will or won't run the league after this year.

TBH, As my league celebrates it's 18th year (I'm personally over 25-years of doing fantasy football) a few years back I was faced with a similar delima...the inmates had started to run the asylum. It was about all about the money and the straw that broke the camels back for me was they wanted to try a salary cap league. (which we did for 1-year)

Now I know there are those that play in those leagues and enjoy it greatly and if that's your thing I'm fine with it...for me as a commissioner...it sucked...what a pain to run.

At that time with my 20+ years in fantasy football I had never managed and played in the league I wanted to play in, configured the way I wanted it, where it wasn't about the money but the hardware and trying to make it fun again.

I decided that off season that I was going to run a league the way I wanted it...lower fee's, a mandatory TE, a FLEX player, NOT playing week 17 (I lost three out of four straight championship games playing lineups on week 17 that weren't even close to the lineup that got me there due to resting players) some scoring changes etc.

I drafted the rules I wanted scoring, roster size, fees etc. In the off season I sent out an e-mail to all and said here's the deal guys, this is the league I'm going to run next year...I'd like it to be ours, but regardless this is what I'm going to be commissioner of.

We were a 12-team league at the time...two guys bailed...one guy bitched but gave it a try...that was 4-years ago...to-date it's been the most competitive league year in and year out since and EVERYBODY LOVES IT.

Last year on week 13...8 out of 10 teams were still vying for the 6-playoff spots. Nobody bailing out on teams, reasonable entry fee ($115.00) and the most flexible system for setting lineups I've ever been a part of...one that as bye weeks and injuries happen you can change how the lineup is without having to make wholesale changes to your roster.

My suggestion(s)- 1st there are 800 more important things that fantasy football, 2-if its not fun...why do it?, 3-consider doing what I did (we can talk offline too Stephen if you want) my sense from your years here is you are going through what I was...I think you still like it...you don't like what it's become...IMO.

Thanks Michael. As it stands right now fantasy football has lost it's luster for me. I don't get excited on Sunday (now Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday) to sit in front of the TV and watch football. I know many do and I think that is great! Maybe it's more of a principal thing when it comes to the NFL and how many players get away with murder (okay, maybe not Hernandez) in the league and at best fines are leeved, sometimes suspensions.

As for my league, I still enjoy getting together with my childhood friends and catching up from the past year. The owners are great, I have no bad words towards them. Without them I wouldn't have a league. They have stuck it out over the years and the league has worked. Sure I haven't been able to implement a few things I wanted to. I run the league, but it's THEIR league and majority rules when it comes to rule and league changes.

I think it's nothing more than a personal choice. It seems to get more difficult each year to get away from draft weekend and go to Vegas, especially being married with a 7 year old. Yet, that is the best part of the entire season, I am sure many would agree. Even if you don't draft in Vegas.

I'll give it the year and make a decision before the season is over. I haven't even told any of the other owners about these feelings. Maybe something will change during the season (liking winning, j/k) that has me reconsider my potential decision. I do think I found FFS at the right time when I signed up, as it seemed to give me something new to focus my attention on, in helping others with the draft prep, draft and weekly decisions. So we will see. Figured I would see if any others were in similar predicaments.

First off, Michael 2yrs ago it was 400 things more important that fantasyfootball. Last year 600, now it is up to 800, and I am still agreeing with you!

TBH, money does add a certain competitive nature to the game, but when it gets to be more about the money and not about the fun the league is lost! Nobody is going to get rich playing fantasy football! The rich could get richer, but the winnings aren't going to pay the mortgage!

Talk to you league, see if they want to back down abit. If not I will always have a spot for you(if you want to vacation in Alabama for a weekend????). If not we can start a new league, you have new friends now and I'm pretty sure Nic would play(easy target).

Main thing is, you always have options!!

Again, TBH I understand...if it's not in you then it isn't...maybe you need to get out...maybe you need a break from it...I certainly understand the time factor.

If you opt out of the league I know I speak for many, many here and we hope FFS won't also get opted out of. We are a better community with you in it...solid insights (whether we agree all time or not) because you back it up with information to support what you are recommending.

However if FFS became a causality as well...all we can say is "thank you" for the time you've put in and will this year!

Life has taught me the time is fleeting, you just never know when it can change on a dime, and we must enjoy where we are at...and try to leave those things we don't in the past...either way I support you!

Thanks...

Well, personally I would like to thank you and the other senior members here for great insight. When it isn't fun anymore, time to rethink things.

I'm sorry to hear that TBH, but as i have said since the very first radio program of the Red Zone back in 1997: the only reason to play Fantasy Football is for the fun, and the friendships it creates with new people. If the fun and the friendships aren't there anymore, it is time to move on. I would be very sorry to see you go though.

I can say that I am a relative newbie, this is only my 6th year. But with the right group money isn't an issue, our FFS league has been amazing at only 25 bucks for the buy in and pretty standard rules.....hope you stick around, it's been great getting to "pick your brain"!
