At the last CB session the owners lobbied hard for an 18-game schedule so they could elminate 2-pre-season games...the NFL players union fought it off.

My personal feeling is that the NFL preseason as we know it, will be gone within two years. There is simply too may injuries to key players...so while the money greedy owners don't want to give up the gate from the preseason games they are spending far more in signing bounues and salary only to watch their stars (investments) go down weeke after week.

Remeber kids AlWAYS follow the money in the NFL...it's not just the fact that Percy Harvin goes down and you lose the signing bouns money you paid him, you signed him, didn't sign others, and planned your offense around and/or including him so there is a down line "gate" (money) effect by him being hurt in meaningless game.

I'm not sure what it will look like and injuries can never be completely elminated even from practice but playing stars in meaningless games and watching them being carted off...is going to be a thing of the past...write it down....

Michael my FFS.com brotha- it will change it has to change you are correct in that there is huge worry about injuries, however, there is also no other way to access talent, especially to make roster custs down to 53. So I see lots of challenges to fixing this once and for all.

NFL? You make more money with 2 more regular season games than preseaon!

Easy answer is start the summer camp 2wks early, of course the players union will say that is cutting into their 6+ months off!

By the last 2wks of preseaon, most teams are just interested in fielding enough players to compete without having to play their starters much!

These guys are paid big bucks to evaluate talent and I think they make most of there decisions based on going against their own 1st team offense and defense and not by going against 2nd or 3rd players on the depth chart in preseason games?

If players are going to get hurt, make it in a game that counts!!

How do they make more money with 2 more regular season games than preseaon? The tickets are the same price whether its preseason or regular season. The beer and food inside the stadium isn't any cheaper for preseason that for regular season.

I'm all for a shorter preseason and a longer regular season!

You up the price for season tickets. Generally preseason tickets are sold to people who don't buy season tickets.

PSL's here in the Carolinas. You've got to buy all 10 games. 2 home preaseason and 8 home regular season games. Tickets are priced the same no matter if the games count or not.

Ads cost more to run during the regular season, as more people watch the games. Most of the $$ from the NFL is with sponsorships/commericals and other marketing venues. Who's watching all those rubbish ads during pre-season? Not me, who's watching all those ads during reg season, me......but hey I have the Sunday Ticket this year, so I won't be watching too many ads!! Whooo Hooo!

FOLLOW THE MONEY BOYS!

Graham is right the money's in the real games...yes the "season tickets holdrs" have to buy the preseaon games at the same price...the stadiums are half empty however during presason...

Big name players going down in games that don't mean spit costs the owners far more than the preseaon ticket gate...

I'm telling ya...its gonna change you watch...

No matter what sport you watch it's all about the money. Take for example Premier League football now on NBC. They paid $250 million for the TV contract, which more than triples what Fox Soccer paid ($23 million). Hopefully American media doesn't ruin the beautiful game, like they did the NFL.
