so, been playing FF since we had to send our line ups in by carrier pigeon..... so, someone explain to me who does their league like this.... why the bleep would any league require a tight end and what possible fun/benefit could you enjoy from this flex shit? no, seriously, seems like something for FF players that really don't understand the game (either one)

I can understand not liking the flex. I play in two leagues one with and one without.

I disagree on no TE....the TE is a position on the field and by adding this player to a draft it makes drafting and the strategy that goes with taking one more interesting. Jimmy Graham is an elite TE and by taking him you give yourself a competitive advantage each week at least at that position. However, by taking Graham you are forgo taking perhaps a good RB or WR that then falls to another team/competitor.

Until they remove the TE from the game I think it's an offensive position everyone should be required to fill in a draft.

Dellova, Dellova, Dellova...you don't like it cause you don't get it!

First off James is right their is a TE in the NFL so why not in fantasy football, it makes you have to manage and pre-plan.

My league not only has one FLEX we have two (RB/WR FLEX and a WRTE FLEX)...why because we have these things called bye weeks, injuries, hot and cold players, coaching changes, philosophy changes etc.

You have to start:
1-QB
1-RB
1-WR

1-TE
1-RB/WR FLEX
1-WR/TE FLEX
1-PK
1-DST

In the NFL can the same team have a 1-RB, 2-TE, 2-WR set or a 2-RB, 1-TE, 2-WR set or a 1-RB, 1-TE, 3-WR set etc...if you are watching they can and do...that's what FLEX provides...flexibility. An opportunity to manage your roster vs. your opponets.

You make an owner manage his roster and allow for the envitable changes that will happen throughout a season.

I've heard of total point, total postion leagues, that you draft a roster, have no lineup requirements, you get points per postion (QB, RB, WR etc) no schedule, wins/losses don't count...my year and half old granddaughter can play and compete in that league.

No my friend...requiring a TE and having a FLEX makes an owner manage a roster week in, week out...is dumbarse luck still involved absoultley...but why do you think there is a lineup section on this site?

All of the above IMO.

I agree. A lot of the fun of FF is working the wire and having options each week.

I'll sit here after 30 years and question, why play a defense or IDP? I agree with Michael, since the TE is an offensive player, why not manage and play one? When I first started my league our "flex" player was either a second QB or K. Over the years we have changed and modified the roster and starting lineups, but we have never thought to exclude the TE. Unlike Michael, we don't reward that position with better points. I think it's up to each league commish as to how they want to configure their league. There is no wrong or right was to run a fantasy league.

TBH, the only reason why we keep the yardage the same but add 1-PPR for TE's only is because the postion (with the exeception of the the 5-6 TE's has been de-emphazied by the NFL schemes, much in the same way RB's are these days.

The theory be hing it if you dont have Gronk or Graham (Back in the day gates, Gonzo, Hernandez) an average day for dsay a Rod housler is 5-catches, 30-yard and maybe a TD. he would be worth 9-points under a normal system...under ours he is worth 14-points.

It just makes TE's 7-15 a little more valuable...not saying it's right but it's the same for everyone and we like it.

dellova, I remember playing FF before the internet and the only person that made any money was the secreatary that had to compile the stats each week from the newspaper. But there was always a TE slot.

I'm no historian, but I think the flex spot came about to make the leagues more competitive.

Early on, you were lucky to put together a 6 or 8 team league, all was good, plenty of talent to go around.

But as the leagues grew to 10, 12, or 14 the talent pool decreased, and coupled with injuries made it impossible for some teams to compete.

Thus the flex, now a team that has 4 or 5 good players can compete with a team that has 3 or 4 great players.

It's all about parody!

Michael, right I understand the reasoning behind the scoring and I don't disagree with it, but I do believe many in my league would.
